What is the difference between a tight head and an open head drum?
A tight head drum is one in which the top is not removable. It has two 2" bung holes in the top that may be removed (except for the 5 and 6-gallon sizes. These only have 1 cap). These tops allow the insertion of a faucet (available in 3/4" and 2" sizes) or a pump. Many people use this style for water or chemical storage. Tight head drums are available in 5, 6, 15, 30 and 55-gallon sizes. We also stock a lighter weight 5-gallon hedpack.
An open head drum is one where the entire top of the drum is removable. It may then be replaced using the metal band that comes with the drum. If you need to mix in a drum, you will want to use the open head variety. Open head drums are available in 15, 30 and 55-gallon sizes.
