Happy Holidays,
From your friends at Western Plastics.

The holidays are fast approaching and many of us get stressed out during what is supposed to be a happy season. It seems as if we are always on the go and money is flying out of our wallets.

We at Western Plastics Corp. hope this will give you some ideas of different things you can do with your family, to create togetherness, and to create some one of a kind gifts given from the heart.

Some of the items on this page were made by children...in fact, the same children who were our "in house ghoulies" for Halloween.

Jenny, age 8, made the turkey using a 375ml PET wine bottle topped with a Yorker Spout. She simply used odds and ends in the craft basket to create this masterpiece. Laying it on its side, she glued feathers to the large end of the bottle, used small blocks for the legs, scrap material for the feet, and sequins for the eyes. She filled it with sand to give it color and ballast.
Picture this holiday bird as a centerpiece in a bed of autumn leaves........cute!

Mandy, age 6, directed the construction of our holiday angel, made with a 12 ounce PET jar.
Using doll hair, available at the craft store, Mandy created a head of blond curls. Her eyes could very easily have been buttons, but she wanted them to look like her own. A bit of scrap lace at the bottom gives the illusion of a dress, and, like Mandy's, her halo is slightly askew. She is filled with pink bubble gum jellybeans. Isn't she darling?

Both girls directed the making of Santa using another 12 ounce PET jar. They scoured the craft store for the glasses, but decided cotton balls would be more realistic for the beard and fur trim. He is filled with coconut & bubble gum jellybeans.

CAUTION: a cool glue gun was used to attach all the pieces to the jars. Be careful, not only will it still burn you, but PET is heat sensitive and the glue gun could melt the plastic if you are not careful.

Let your imagination run wild. Set your children (or yourself) down with colored glue, fabric scraps, buttons, bows, glitter and whatever else strikes their fancy and see what they can create! Make a family of characters to decorate your table or serve as place cards. Have your child make very special, one of a kind, teacher or family gifts. Fill them with the person's favorite nuts or candies or even something like golf tees. Don't forget to make one for the dog or cat, filling it with treats!

FOR THE ADULTS
Use your time and money wisely. Make a selection of herbed vinegars or pickled peppers for those occasions when you want to give a gift, but are stuck for an idea. Decorate the container with raffia or ribbon to make it more festive. Some of our customers also make their own Kahlua or Irish Crème to give as gifts. Small jars of homemade goodies with coordinating items make a wonderful gift basket. For example, make homemade salsa and fix a basket with blue and yellow corn tortillas or make homemade bread and give it with a special jar of apple butter.
Make the holidays family times. Let your children help. Sometimes it is more work, but think of the new traditions you can create.

Happy holidays!
